Proudly sponsored by the Northern Territory Government, take this opportunity to learn about this ancient craft from some of Australia’s top weavers. A group of Yolngu women from Mapuru, Arnhem land, are coming to Melbourne and will be running a workshop to share this beautiful art form. Join us for two days, sitting in a weaving circle with a small group of people, in a natural outdoor setting. Be guided by expert tutors from Mapuru to weave baskets using pandanas dyed with natural colours from plants.
When: Friday 1st April 5.00 – 7.00pm. Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April 9.30 – 4.30 pm (Friday evening, meet your teachers followed by 2 full days of weaving followed by a public outdoor exhibition)
Where: Namalata Wilam shelter, CERES Brunswick
The fee covers payment for expert tuition with members from the Arnhem Weavers, funding towards transport for the 3000km journey between Mapuru and Melbourne, and weaving materials and colour. BYO Lunch. Light morning and afternoon tea provided.
