Friends of Mapuru (FoM) are a group of volunteers, passionate about remaining connected with the community of Mapuru. The experiences we share through our visits up north have been so powerful we felt it was important to continue to maintain the connections that have been established and share our experiences more widely by setting up a formal partnership of sharing knowledge and cultivating relationships.
FoM are all people who have travelled to, and stayed in Mapuru. While our visits may have been brief our lives are so much richer with a new perspective on connection to country, family and community. FoM acknowledge and encourage cultural exchange within Australia as a way of strengthening relationships.
FoM consists of a working group of six people and a wider support group currently numbering about 30. Alongside supporting the people of Mapuru in understanding and bridging the separation between western and indigenous ways in Australia, members of FoM offer skills in management, planning and logistics, grant writing and funding applications, communication and graphic design. All work completed by FoM is voluntary.
Friends of Mapuru value people, craft, culture and homelands. The ongoing exchanges are intended to be rich and fulfilling for everyone involved.
This is a journey that we will only be able to take with the financial support of others.
Through your donations you can support our first cultural exchange and become part of our extended community.
We are really looking forward to sharing our journey with you.
Thank you kindly.
